Job Overview:
The Family Advocate provides direct support across all Community Center Youth Programs, including Zoila’s, LOFT, VAST, and Summer Camp, by delivering high-quality care and supervision for participating children and youth. This position is assigned to different programs as needed to ensure proper coverage, support the team, and maintain smooth daily operations across all youth services.
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provide care and supervision for children across all Community Center youth programs
- Support the Youth Programs team by assisting in various programs as needed for coverage and overall program success
- Assist with program organization, coordination, and administrative tasks, including materials prep, attendance tracking, and logistics
- Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging environment, including monitoring activities and ensuring hygiene standards
- Assist with meals, snacks, and daily program routines
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities that encourage learning, creativity, and exploration
- Support children’s social and emotional development and promote positive behavior
- Maintain accurate records of participant progress and report any concerns or incidents to the Youth Programs Manager
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding activities and updates; however incidents should be communicated by Youth Programs Manager
- Perform other duties as assigned to support youth programs
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong understanding of child and adolescent development principles
- Caring, compassionate, and nurturing approach when working with children and youth
- Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills to effectively engage with children, colleagues, parents/guardians, and community partners
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
- Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and program responsibilities
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- High level of attention to detail, with a focus on safety, supervision, and program quality
- Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and stamina to meet the demands of working with children and teens of various ages
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office (Excel preferred)
- Positive, proactive, and team-oriented attitude
- Bilingual or foreign language skills are a plus, but not required
- Pediatric CPR / First Aid Certification (EMSA-approved)
- Mandated Reporter Training
- Pesticide Safety / Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Training
- Negative TB Test Clearance
- Live Scan Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Clearance
- Compliance with all State Licensing requirements
Experience & Requirements:
- Experience and/or education in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or a related field
- Knowledge of child supervision, behavior guidance, and developmentally appropriate practices
- Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds
- Strong communication, relationship-building, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and appropriate boundaries
- Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all children and families
