The San Geronimo Valley Community Center is excited to relaunch our Community Unlearning program with another Community Read, this time reading Karla Cornejo Villavicencio’s The Undocumented Americans. This 8-week virtual book discussion book will be held weekly on Zoom from 6:30 pm-7:30 pm starting Wednesday, September 8th. 2020 National Book Award Finalist, The Undocumented Americans, is Karla Cornejo Villavicencio’s phenomenal telling of her experience as an undocumented American who risks her own saftey to return to the border to explore the lives of the undocumented—and the mysteries of her own life. She finds the singular, effervescent characters across the nation often reduced in the media to political pawns or nameless laborers. The stories she tells are not deferential or naively inspirational but show the love, magic, heartbreak, insanity, and vulgarity that infuse the day-to-day lives of her subjects. Reserve space for this free discussion here.
