Job Overview:
Oversee visual art exhibits and events to foster a sense of creativity, artistry, and inclusion in our community.
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
- Curate monthly artist exhibits.
- Curate larger group shows including the Spring Art Show.
- Conceive of and curate thematic art shows including but not limited to print-makers show, senior show, NextGen show, Latino Art Show, International Day of Peace show, etc.
- Collaborate with Lagunitas and Nicasio School art programs to integrate the school community into the Community Center visual arts program.
- Partner with Wellness Coordinator to integrate NextGen artists into the Visual Arts program.
- Work with a team to hang shows and set up exhibits.
- Work with operations and finance to collect all waivers, agreements, and payments.
- Work with the Communications Manager to adequately promote.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the Valley Art Community while forging new relationships with emerging artists and NextGen artists to build an ongoing visual arts program, continue to develop the Valley Artist’s Directory.
- Create ongoing visual arts opportunities such as artist film nights and salons.
Work Structure and Day to Day:
- The Visual Arts position is a part of the larger Arts and Events Team and Program. All of the Visual Arts work must happen in full collaboration with the Arts and Events Coordinator.
- Re-invigorate the Arts Committee by adding new members and working with the Arts, Events, Communications and Development Manager to establish systems for picking artists, increasing diversity, and calendaring/promoting events in a timely manner.
- Attend staff meetings every other week.
- Attend bi-monthly arts and events meetings
- Have a weekly check-in with the Manager of Arts, Events, Communications and Development Manager.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven knowledge of visual arts curation
- Arts background
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Project management skills
- Attention to detail
- Interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of local artist community
- Background in education not required but desired
- Bilingual in Spanish not required but desired
Experience & Requirements:
- 3-5 years in visual arts or transferable experience
- Knowledge of MS Office, Google suite, and sound technology and equipment
- Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation, including:some text
- Sit for extended periods of time
- Occasionally lift or lower objects up to 50 pounds
- Ability to go up on a ladder
- Ability to hang artwork
