The Eagle Hunter’s Son is the story of twelve-year-old Barzabai who dreams of leaving his native Mongolian province for the city. When his older brother goes to the city, Barzabai chafes under his father’s strictness. He is frustrated by his father’s lack of confidence in his abilities with the eagle that is his father’s constant companion. He feels incompetent at the gathering of the eagle hunters and their sons. Finally Barzabai leaves to go to the city to find his brother. Fortunately, he is followed by his father’s prize eagle.

In the vein of international hits such as The Weeping Camel, The Eagle Hunter’s Son conveys poetry, rough beauty and genuine wisdom that appeals to children and adults in the best sense of substantial, edifying family entertainment. Intimate yet powerful, this superbly well-crafted feature by Renè Bo Hansen is a thrilling and emotional story about redemption, reconciliation and resolution, shot in the sumptuous landscapes of Mongolia.

Note to Parents/Teachers: The Eagle Hunter’s Son coming-of-age story about a teen boy’s journey away from home and his coming to a greater understanding of his father and his culture. There is some coarse language and situations that may be mildly upsetting to the most sensitive viewers. There is a happy resolution to the story. For ages 10+ In German and Mongolian with English subtitles.
